Sue Boyd, LCSW, LCS #24597 is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California. She received her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from San Diego State University in May 2001. She earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of North Florida in December 1991 with a double major in Psychology and Sociology.

Sue has provided therapy and counseling services in a number of settings since 1991, including serving as the Interim Executive Director for The Suicide Prevention Center for Jacksonville, FL. She has provided individual and family therapy to families referred by Child Protective Services in Jacksonville, FL, worked as a lead instructor working with juvenile offenders at Hurricane Island Outward Bound in Florida, provided psychological services at Children's Hospital San Diego and at the LGBT Center in San Diego in clinical internships, and provided individual, group and couple's therapy as a staff therapist at the LGBT Center in San Diego. She has provided individual and group therapy at Halcyon Crisis Center, at Outpatient services at Bayview Behavioral Health Hospital and Alvarado Parkway Institute, at San Diego Center for Children, and behavioral consulting for the developmentally delayed population in San Diego County. She has also been a Field Instructor for SDSU's MSW program for several years, supervising MSW interns. Sue currently employees and provides supervision for Donna Chapman, MA, Marriage and Family Therapist Registered Intern, Courtney Muir, MA, Marriage and Family Therapist Registered Intern, and Jack Spohn, MSW, ASW. Sue has provided modified DBT skills training since 2001 in a variety of settings, and adherent DBT individual and skills training since 2008.


Sue currently has a private therapy practice in Mission Valley in San Diego, www.PersonalEvolutionPsychotherapy.com, where she provides individual, couples and family therapy. She has extensive experience and training in providing Gender Therapy to transgender adults, adolescents, gender-variant children, and their families, and is currently providing Gender Therapy in San Diego County. She also specializes in working with people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer, and has extensive experience and training in working with the LGBTQ community. She is also Kink-Friendly and works with people in the BDSM and Poly communities in a non-judgmental, safe and supportive environment.


Sue currently provides Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Training groups and provides individual DBT therapy for adults, adolescents, couples and families. DBT therapy is designed to assist people who have suicidal thoughts and/or self-injurious behaviors, difficulty controlling impulses, depression, emotional lability or dysregulation (i.e. intense mood swings), eating disorders or eating disorder behavior including emotional eating, PTSD, or anxiety including OCD and panic attacks. DBT also assists people who are having difficulty relating to and/or communicating with other people effectively. 

Sue co-founded a team of adherent DBT therapists
in 2008. Sue participated in Dr. Marsha Linehan's Intensive Training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, 2008-2009, in a training that was conducted by Dr. Marsha Linehan and Dr. Shari Manning. Dr. Marsha Linehan is the founder of DBT.
Sue also participated in 'Doing DBT to Adherence and with Competence: An Advanced Course' with Charles Swenson, M.D.  In 2013, Sue created her own adherent DBT team of clinicians - Personal Evolution Psychotherapy. Sue has attended numerous one and two day trainings in DBT, gender identity, mindfulness and anxiety since 2001. She meets for weekly DBT team consultation, which allows her to continue to practice acceptance, and to grow and change.

All three are talented therapists who specialize in working with the transgender and LGBTQ communities, and provide gender therapy. They are also all DBT therapists who recieve their DBT supervision through Sue and participate in weekly DBT consultation team meetings. Dr. Jessica Silsby is also an adherent DBT therapist that provides gender therapy and DBT at Personal Evolution Psychotherapy.
