Sue Boyd, LCSW, LCS #24597
is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California. She
received her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from San Diego State
University in May 2001.
She earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of North Florida
in December 1991 with a double major in Psychology and Sociology.
Sue has provided therapy and counseling services in a number of
settings since 1991, including serving as the Interim Executive
Director for The Suicide Prevention Center for Jacksonville, FL.
She has provided individual and family therapy to families referred by Child
Protective Services in Jacksonville, FL, worked as a lead instructor working
with juvenile offenders at Hurricane Island Outward Bound in Florida, provided psychological services at Children's Hospital San Diego and at the LGBT Center in San Diego in clinical
internships, and provided individual, group and couple's therapy as a staff therapist at the LGBT Center in San Diego.
She has provided individual and group therapy at Halcyon Crisis
Center, at Outpatient services at Bayview Behavioral Health Hospital and Alvarado Parkway Institute,
at San Diego Center for Children, and behavioral consulting for the
developmentally delayed population in San Diego County. She has also been a Field Instructor for SDSU's MSW program for several years, supervising MSW interns. Sue currently provides supervision for Donna Chapman, MA, IMF. Sue has provided modified DBT skills training since 2001 in a variety of settings.
Sue currently has a private therapy practice in Mission Valley in San Diego, where she
provides individual, couples and family therapy. She has extensive experience and training in providing Gender Therapy to transgender adults, adolescents, gender-variant children, and their families, and is currently providing Gender Therapy in San Diego County. She also specializes in working with people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and has extensive experience and training in working with the LGBTQ community. She is also Kink-Friendly and works with people in the BDSM and Poly communities in a non-judgmental, safe and supportive environment. She
currently provides Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Training
groups with Applied DBT Clinicians and provides individual DBT therapy for adults, adolescents, couples and families. DBT therapy is designed to assist people who have self-injurious behaviors, low impulse control, emotional lability or dysregulation (i.e. intense mood swings), eating disorders or eating disorder behavior, PTSD, severe anxiety disorders including OCD and panic attacks, or frequent suicidal ideation. DBT also assists people who are having difficulty relating to and communicating with other people effectively.
Sue co-founded a team of DBT therapists with Applied DBT Clinicians @ www.applieddbt.com. Sue participated with this DBT team of Applied DBT Clinicians in Dr. Marsha Linehan's 10-day
Intensive Training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, 2009, in a training that was conducted by Dr. Marsha Linehan and Dr. Shari Manning. Dr. Marsha Linehan is the founder of DBT. Sue has also attended numerous and multiple one and two day trainings in DBT, gender identity, mindfulness and anxiety since 2001. Sue meets for weekly team consultation with Applied DBT Clinicians, which allows her to continue to accept, grow and change.
